Cardwell Architects worked with Western Washington University to provide a predesign study for submission to the State of Washington Office of Financial Management. The Communications Facility program provided space for general university classrooms and instruction, and administrative space for the Departments of Communication, Computer Science, Journalism and Physics/Astronomy. The intent of the Communications Facility was to improve access to educational facilities for the university's current enrollment, to increase the number of classrooms, to improve instructional facilities, to provide research facilities, to upgrade technological infrastructure and to strengthen existing resources.
